Changing Times/Same Faces, by Dan Gouly

faces, slipping cuttlefish sepia/
tracing bloodlines of a billion times the faces of a die that meet here/
I sigh, seeing similiars, familiar familiarity/
breeding a contempt defying rationality/
following strife and in banality/
cannot see the qualities that make similiar faces smile/
a while, or cry, following genealogical paths/
entwined geographically and all these illogical acts almost make me laugh/
as i cast my die, pick a tiny fraction & diffract my heritage further/
ether glancing urgency forcing unity prayers to murmur/
clear the glance of similiar profiles/
that roll exquisite out of historys depths with the capacity to last the whole while/
& i’m thinking, less than a point difference,we discuss inference/
and together should remember the single point of our infan-/
-cy, the abrahamic three, should be closer than me, than I, than we/
kabbalistic peace spheres mirror thoughts of sufi/
so loosely and truthly as faces and ages past/
way down the years before shtetls & ghettos that still blast/
hard icy, grey rimmed, fleeting imprinting/
never marred by the pain but my empathies unstinting/
gaze further back past etched, semitic visages/
to israel, ishmail sail past mind eyes, not myths, may i risk/
truth, embued, two halves of the same/
tame this brief anger in all of history’s game/
so come hither, don’t wither, feel wistful for my mission/
is a blissful unity of our ying-yang vision/
of bigger than big bang beliefs belie/
sharing that only a single historical act has defied/
not defiled, remember we used to discuss the deepest and smile/
get closer to the highest together and fly/
so take a look in these faces and say why/

maybe not even two races/
same faces.
